Bill Farren-Price Founder and CEO
Petroleum Policy Intelligence (PPI) founder and CEO Bill Farren-Price has 20 years experience in the energy industry, working both as a consultant and industry journalist focused on MENA energy and politics. Before establishing PPI in 2010, he led oil research at Medley Global Advisors. He has held senior correspondent and editorial posts with international news wires including Knight-Ridder Financial News (latterly Bridge News), Agence France-Presse and UPI and edited the Cyprus-based Middle East Economic Survey (MEES). He regularly contributes articles to industry and general media and is a frequent speaker on the region and its energy economy. He is a graduate of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the University of London.
Derek Brower Managing Director, Research
Dr Derek Brower is managing director of research at PPI. He has almost 20 years’ experience as a journalist and researcher in the energy industry, living and working in the UK, Russia and Canada. He has written for The Economist, Bridge News (now Reuters), the Times, the Guardian and a range of other specialist publications including Petroleum Economist, where he is editor-at-large. He has extensive experience of covering MENA, OPEC, Sub-Saharan Africa and FSU energy and political risk. He holds a PhD in Russian studies from the University of London, an MA from the School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES), and a BA in History from Oxford University.
Gerald Butt Director, MENA Politics
Gerald Butt leads PPI’s MENA political coverage, drawing on four decades of living and working in the region. An Arabist, he was born and brought up in the Middle East, and was later an award-winning BBC correspondent based in Beirut, Jerusalem and Nicosia. He then edited the weekly Middle East Economic Survey (MEES) in Cyprus. He is a regular commentator on Middle East affairs, the author of several books on the area, and a reviewer for the Times Literary Supplement.
Ian Jarman Director, Finance and Administration
Ian Jarman is director of finance and administration at PPI. His career started in the Middle East oil field services sector before moving into IT technical services and sales support with IBM in the UK. After a period working in the US, he has consulted and advised a number of UK businesses on business development, finance and administration. He holds a BSc in Engineering Science from the University of Exeter.
